I've been collecting obscure tunes and records for the better part of 25 years, and of particular interest to me has always been Holiday music. I've always found that making folks listen to some great Holiday music (whether they want to or not) is the perfect way to get everyone into the spirit of things, and in keeping with that tradition I've put together a list of some of my favorites for your listening pleasure!
Wesley Willis will forever be missed. This holiday classic comes from his seminal album, Rock and Roll Will Never Die.
The Metal God recently returned with his second collection of holiday favorites, including this very hardcore rendition of Deck the Halls.
Few people know that the late great Regis Philbin released a holiday record. Both his and Kathy Lee Gifford’s albums sit proudly in my collection. They even made an animated video for this track!
“This Christmas” is the holiday record which reunited John Travolta with the late Olivia Newton John. Here they sing White Christmas.
Long before the days of auto-tune, this long forgotten album was carried purely on the rising star power of Edward Furlong, fresh from the set of Terminator 2. Only released in Japan.
Billy Bob Thornton is a prolific recording artist who has always placed his acting career as secondary to his musical ambitions. A multi-instrumentalist who started out on guitar, later drums, and then singing.
After a successful run on American Idol, singing sensation William Hung went on to record four albums, one of which was the joyful holiday album, Hung For the Holidays.
This romantic collection of holiday favorites comes from one of television's original power couples, Kermit & Ms. Piggy.
Admittedly an acquired taste, the Singing Saw is back and this time with ten holiday favorites, including Jingle Bells.
From the master thespian himself comes “Shatner Claus”, a collection of holiday favorites featuring artists such as Billy Gibbons (ZZ top), Henry Rollins, and Iggy Pop.
(Honorable mention)
The Swedish male model and nightclub owner turned pop sensation known as Gunther only released one album in 2004, the seminal Pleasureman; but certainly left an indelible mark on the world of dance and pop music. The bonus track from his sole record is this timeless holiday classic.
